Colette Muhammad is the founder of Canning with Colette, an educational company dedicated to teaching the essential skill of safe food preservation via the home canning method. Known throughout the community as The Canning Queen, she empowers individuals, families, organizations, and communities to reduce food costs, improve food security, and build self-sufficiency through the art and science of home canning.

Over the last six years and counting, Colette has taught tens of thousands of people virtually and in-person combined, not only how to can, she also has presented the urgency of why it is more important than ever to learn how to can while you can, “before stuff hits the fan.”

As a result of her books, online courses, and engaging community presentations, she has inspired people to become safe, skillful and confident food preservers.

In addition to leading her business, Colette serves as the Communications & Events Support Associate for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Rochester, where she combines strategic communications with community engagement to help bring awareness to mentorship opportunities for local youth.

Whether speaking to community groups, partnering with organizations, or teaching first-time canners, Colette Muhammad’s foundational mission remains to revive an essential life skill that empowers people to become more confident, prepared, and food secure.
